Maximize Velocity card art
Maximize Velocity gives any creature haste and trample until end of turn for one red mana and a card from your graveyard — the entire effect costs nothing beyond resources you've already spent. It's a surgical finisher spell, not a slot you run for value, and in any deck that can reliably fuel the graveyard cost it earns its place.

Format Analysis

FormatVerdict

oathbreaker

In Commander, Maximize Velocity earns a spot in decks that either reanimate large creatures at instant speed or need a one-mana way to push a threat through on the same turn it enters — Feldon of the Third Path and Kaalia of the Vast shells are the clearest homes. In Pauper, the graveyard cost is real friction but one red mana at common rarity for haste plus trample is a legitimate rate in aggressive red lists. Modern and Pioneer have enough cheap cantrips and looting effects that fueling the escape cost is trivial, though dedicated spell-based aggro decks want it more than midrange. Legacy and Vintage move too fast for a combat trick to matter. The honest read is that Maximize Velocity is a format-agnostic role-player: narrow but efficient wherever the cost structure fits.

Price Context

Current price

$0.13 bulk tier

At $0.13, Maximize Velocity is deep bulk — you're buying a playset for the cost of a sleeve. Bulk rares fluctuate, but a common-rate effect at this price has essentially no floor left to drop through, so there's no reason to hesitate on picking up copies.
