Mark of the Vampire gives a creature +2/+2 and lifelink for four mana — solid stats, real lifegain, but stapled to an Aura, which means it eats two-for-one removal every time. In any format with efficient spot removal, the enchant-a-creature plan collapses under the first Lightning Bolt or Path to Exile.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Mark of the Vampire is a low-power inclusion — the lifegain is real, but four mana for an Aura is a steep ask when the first removal spell turns it into a two-for-one against you. Pauper is its best home, where the card pool is shallow enough that +2/+2 lifelink on a creature can actually close games and the removal suite is slower. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, it never sees play — those formats kill creatures faster than you can profit from the Aura. Oathbreaker is structurally similar to Commander, so the same ceiling applies.

Price Context
Current price
$0.13 bulk tier
At $0.13, Mark of the Vampire is deep bulk — it costs less than a sleeve and buylists for next to nothing. That price is stable because demand is low across every competitive format; don't expect movement in either direction.
