Mana Maze locks each player to casting only one spell of any given color per turn — a soft but persistent tax that punishes multicolor-heavy decks while rewarding mono-color or colorless strategies. At two mana with no upkeep cost, the rate is excellent; the catch is that it hurts you equally, so it only belongs in decks built to exploit the asymmetry.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Mana Maze is a politics piece and a hate piece simultaneously — it slows down four-color goodstuff piles and punishes opponents who rely on casting multiple blue or green spells in a turn, while a mono-color or near-mono-color pilot can largely ignore it. Legacy and Vintage are the only other legal formats, and neither has a meaningful home for it: the formats move too fast and too synergistically for a symmetrical enchantment that doesn't immediately impact the board. Oathbreaker is legal but shares Commander's multiplayer math, where the card punishes the table more than it punishes you — provided your deck is built that way.

Price Context
Current price
$4.59 cheap tier
At $4.59, Mana Maze sits in the cheap tier — low enough that it's a casual pickup, not a commitment. It's a narrow card with a small target audience, so the price is stable rather than climbing; don't expect it to move much in either direction.
