Malicious Intent gives a creature haste and makes blocking it nearly impossible — for one red mana at instant speed — then replaces itself with another Aura on Warchanter Skald's trigger. One mana, two effects, a card back: that's the whole case.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Malicious Intent earns its slot, primarily in aggressive red strategies that want cheap, cantripping enablers — Warchanter Skald decks especially, since every Aura cast refuels your hand. In Pauper it's a legal common with a real role in red aura-aggro, where the one-mana haste clause on an unblockable-adjacent body can close games fast. Legacy and Vintage are legal but uninterested — the effect is too low-impact for those formats' power levels. Modern and Pioneer are better hunting grounds if an Aura-matters shell ever consolidates, but Malicious Intent hasn't found a home there yet.

$0.02 bulk tier
At $0.02, Malicious Intent is pure bulk — you're paying for cardboard and shipping, not the card. Bulk commons rarely move unless a format-defining deck picks them up, and nothing on the horizon suggests that spike is coming.
