Makeshift Munitions card art
Makeshift Munitions turns every spare artifact or creature into a point of direct damage — one mana, sacrifice, deal 1, repeat as often as you have fodder. The cost is real: incremental one-damage pings demand a wide board and a specific payoff shell to matter, which is exactly why Emry, Lurker of the Loch decks love it as a free-roll win condition on top of an already recursive artifact engine.

Format Analysis

In Commander, Makeshift Munitions earns its slot in artifact-sacrifice decks that generate disposable tokens or self-recurring pieces — it converts an engine that was already running into a kill condition without adding a dedicated finisher slot. Pauper is where it genuinely overperforms: the format's artifact-synergy shells are common-dense, and a one-mana repeatable damage outlet at common is a meaningful rate. In Modern and Pioneer it's theoretically legal but too slow to compete with existing sacrifice payoffs that demand more immediate board impact. Legacy and Vintage have the same problem at higher velocity — the card simply doesn't do enough in one activation to justify the slot.

Price Context

Current price

$0.14 bulk tier

At $0.14, Makeshift Munitions is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard and shipping, not the card. Bulk commons with narrow-but-real applications tend to stay flat, so there's no meaningful price consideration here beyond grabbing a copy the next time you place an order.
