Magus of the Future card art
Magus of the Future puts Future Sight on a body — every top card of your library is castable, every turn, until the Magus dies. The creature body is the cost: unlike Sensei's Divining Top, it eats a removal spell and folds to board wipes, but in the right shell that vulnerability is worth a permanent Future Sight effect for three mana. River Song and any deck that cares about casting from unusual zones will run it every time.

River Song draws a card whenever you cast a spell from anywhere other than your hand, so Magus of the Future turns every top card of your library into a potential River Song trigger — the two create a self-sustaining draw engine that compounds every turn.

In Commander, Magus of the Future is a staple-grade effect at a budget price — Future Sight on a creature is powerful enough that the removal vulnerability rarely disqualifies it, especially in blue decks with ways to protect it or recur it. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but sees essentially no play, because the effect exists on an enchantment that doesn't die to Lightning Bolt. Oathbreaker is the other format where Magus of the Future earns serious consideration, since low threat density makes a sustained top-of-library advantage engine genuinely threatening. Pioneer, Standard, and Pauper don't have access to it.

Price Context

Current price

$0.33 bulk tier

At $0.33, Magus of the Future is deep bulk — you're getting a Future Sight effect for under fifty cents, which is an absurd rate for the effect. The price is stable; casual demand keeps it from bottoming out, but there's no scarcity premium pushing it higher.
