Magda, the Hoardmaster card art
Magda, the Hoardmaster generates a Treasure and a 4/4 Dragon token every time a creature dies — on either side of the table — which means in a creature-heavy pod she snowballs without any setup. The cost is that her effect is symmetrical and reactive, so she rewards reading the table rather than forcing action the way Magda, Brazen Outlaw or Ganax, Astral Hunter do.

01
Magda, Brazen Outlaw

Magda, Brazen Outlaw

73.2% of decks · synergy 0.67

Magda, Brazen Outlaw's Dwarf-tap engine already wants Treasures flowing, and slotting in Magda, the Hoardmaster means every creature death — including Dwarves sacrificed to cash in Treasures — refuels the hoard and adds a Dragon body that Brazen Outlaw can immediately search out tutors for.

02
Marchesa, Dealer of Death

Marchesa, Dealer of Death

63.3% of decks · synergy 0.62

Marchesa, Dealer of Death's goad and death-trigger gameplan turns every combat step into a creature massacre, and Magda, the Hoardmaster converts each of those deaths into a Treasure and a growing Dragon army on Marchesa's side of the ledger.

03

Zidane, Tantalus Thief cares about combat damage and keeping creatures swinging, which generates a steady stream of blocks and deaths that Magda, the Hoardmaster translates into Treasures and tokens without requiring extra investment.

04
Kelsien, the Plague

Kelsien, the Plague

44.5% of decks · synergy 0.42

Kelsien, the Plague kills creatures one by one for value, and Magda, the Hoardmaster turns each of those targeted kills into a Treasure plus a 4/4 Dragon, compounding the incremental advantage Kelsien was already generating.

05
Roxanne, Starfall Savant

Roxanne, Starfall Savant

43.7% of decks · synergy 0.41

Roxanne, Starfall Savant is a big-mana Meteor Golem-style deck that wants Treasures to accelerate its meteorite payoffs, and Magda, the Hoardmaster supplies a passive Treasure stream off the creature deaths those expensive spells inevitably cause.

oathbreaker

In Commander, Magda, the Hoardmaster is at her best — multiplayer pods generate consistent creature deaths across four players, which means her trigger fires often enough to produce real Treasure counts and a meaningful Dragon army without any dedicated setup. In 1v1 formats like Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer she's too slow and too conditional; a three-mana 2/3 that waits for creatures to die doesn't compete with the proactive threats those formats demand. Standard is the only context where she has a plausible home, specifically in Rakdos or Mardu sacrifice shells where you're already engineering deaths, but even there she's a value piece rather than a threat. Oathbreaker gives her the same multiplayer upside as Commander, and she fits neatly under any red or black planeswalker that wants artifacts or bodies.

Price Context

Current price

$0.84 bulk tier

At $0.84, Magda, the Hoardmaster is firmly bulk — pickup cost is negligible for any deck that wants her. The price is likely to stay in this range; she's powerful in the right shells but not a staple that drives broad demand across archetypes.
