Lunar Avenger hits the board as a colorless threat that accumulates +1/+1 counters whenever you cast a spell of each color — the payoff is real if you can fuel it, but seven mana to deploy a vanilla body that needs additional investment to matter is a steep ask. In dedicated counter-growth shells, especially under Mairsil, the Pretender where caging it exports its activated abilities, the ceiling rises considerably.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Lunar Avenger is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but competitive constructed formats have no interest in a seven-mana colorless creature with a conditional growth trigger — the rate is unplayable there. Commander is the only realistic home, where the singleton rule and longer games give it room to accumulate counters across a full five-color pod. Even in Commander, it needs a deck built to trigger all five color conditions consistently, which limits it to explicitly five-color spell-slinger lists.

Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Lunar Avenger is deep bulk — the price reflects narrow demand rather than any scarcity concern. It won't appreciate unless a breakout commander pushes five-color counter synergies into the spotlight, so treat it as a cheap experiment rather than a long-term hold.
