Luminous Bonds card art
Luminous Bonds stops a creature cold — no attacking, no blocking — but leaves it on the battlefield, which means death triggers still fire and sacrifice outlets still work. It's a budget enchantment removal that does the job in casual play and gets outclassed everywhere the bar is higher.

In Commander, Luminous Bonds is a three-mana answer that handles most threats on the board but punts against aristocrats, sacrifice synergies, and anything that only needs to exist rather than swing. Pauper is where it sees the most legitimate play — the card pool is shallow enough that locking down an attacker at common rarity actually matters. In Modern, Pioneer, Legacy, and Vintage, the competition is too stiff: Prismatic Ending, Swords to Plowshares, and Path to Exile all cost less and remove the creature outright rather than leaving a live permanent on the other side. Luminous Bonds is a legal option in all of those formats, but legal and playable aren't the same thing.

Price Context

Current price

$0.11 bulk tier

At $0.11, Luminous Bonds is pure bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not scarcity. It won't hold or gain value, but that's fine: this is a card you grab as a filler piece for a casual build, not one you track.
