Loxodon Surveyor card art
Loxodon Surveyor puts a land directly onto the battlefield when it enters — no tapping, no waiting — and Samut, the Driving Force can trigger that ability multiple times in a single turn. Four mana for a 3/3 that ramps once is already acceptable value; the ceiling climbs fast in any deck that blinks or bounces creatures repeatedly.

Samut, the Driving Force

10.1% of decks · synergy 0.10

Samut, the Driving Force untaps creatures after they attack, which creates a loop where Loxodon Surveyor can attack, untap, and — if you have any bounce or flicker stapled to combat — re-enter the battlefield to grab another land. Even without the infinite line, Samut decks run enough creature-based acceleration that Loxodon Surveyor slots in as reliable, repeatable ramp.

Format Analysis

In Commander, Loxodon Surveyor occupies the lower tier of creature-based ramp — fine in aggressive green or Naya builds that want bodies alongside land drops, but Cultivate and Wood Elves do the same job more efficiently. Outside Commander, it has virtually no competitive presence: Modern, Pioneer, and Legacy all demand far more from a four-mana creature, and even Pauper, where the bar is lower, has cheaper ramp commons that leave Loxodon Surveyor on the bench. Standard is the one context where limited card pools occasionally push players toward it, but it still rarely sees maindeck play.

Price Context

Current price

$0.03 bulk tier

At $0.03, Loxodon Surveyor is deep bulk — it costs less than the stamp on a letter and holds that price because demand is minimal across every format. Bulk commons like this don't appreciate; grab a copy if you need it, but don't expect it to be worth more than a dime in any foreseeable future.
