Lord Skitter, Sewer King card art
Lord Skitter, Sewer King generates a free 1/1 Rat token every turn just by existing — opponents exile a card from their graveyard or you get the token, which means the engine runs itself against any graveyard deck and keeps running against everyone else. The closest comparison in token-generation efficiency is Void Attendant, but Lord Skitter taxes the opponent's yard instead of your own resources, making it strictly better in most metas. Run it alongside Wick, the Whorled Mind and the Rat army builds itself without additional investment.

01
Wick, the Whorled Mind

Wick, the Whorled Mind

81.6% of decks · synergy 0.79

Wick, the Whorled Mind fills graveyards at a breakneck pace through its mill triggers, which means Lord Skitter, Sewer King is almost guaranteed to fire every turn — opponents will run out of yard cards to exile long before you run out of ways to profit from the tokens.

02
Totentanz, Swarm Piper

Totentanz, Swarm Piper

79.8% of decks · synergy 0.79

Totentanz, Swarm Piper cares deeply about Rat count, and Lord Skitter, Sewer King delivers a fresh one each turn cycle at no mana cost — together they make it trivial to hit the critical mass Totentanz needs to close games.

03
Vren, the Relentless

Vren, the Relentless

65.8% of decks · synergy 0.63

Vren, the Relentless rewards running a wide Rat board, and Lord Skitter, Sewer King is one of the most reliable passive token sources the tribe has — the graveyard-exile rider also doubles as soft hate against Vren opponents running self-mill packages.

04
Karumonix, the Rat King

Karumonix, the Rat King

67.3% of decks · synergy 0.59

Karumonix, the Rat King wants as many Rats as possible to maximize poison spread, and Lord Skitter, Sewer King provides a steady, unconditional stream of them without eating a spell slot each turn.

Commander is where Lord Skitter, Sewer King earns its reputation: a 60-card format rarely gives you three opponents' graveyards to tax, but EDH tables are graveyard-heavy by default, so the token trigger fires almost every round. In Rat tribal specifically, it's close to an auto-include — the combination of a relevant type, passive token generation, and incidental graveyard hate is hard to match at four mana. In Legacy and Vintage, it's legal but competes with an efficiency bar that a 3/3 for four rarely clears. Modern and Pioneer graveyard decks are real, but Lord Skitter is too slow and too conditional for the role of hate piece when dedicated sideboard options cost less mana. Standard is its most competitive non-Commander home — token generation plus yard disruption on a single body is a legitimate rate when curve-topping at four, though it tends to show up as a one- or two-of rather than a playset.
