Lofty Denial card art
Lofty Denial is a hard counter for one mana in any deck that keeps a flier on board — that's the whole deal. Kastral, the Windcrested runs it as a near-automatic include because a flying-tribal commander means the condition is almost never a constraint.

Commanders with the highest synergy

02
Kangee, Sky Warden

Kangee, Sky Warden

37.1% of decks · synergy 0.34

Kangee, Sky Warden builds a board of birds and fliers, which means Lofty Denial is almost always live and costs exactly one blue mana to represent a full counter through the mid-game.

03
Errant and Giada

Errant and Giada

31.3% of decks · synergy 0.28

Errant and Giada floods the board with Angels, and Lofty Denial slots in as the cheapest reactive protection piece available — one mana to stop a removal spell targeting your commander is the core appeal.

04
Cynette, Jelly Drover

Cynette, Jelly Drover

26.8% of decks · synergy 0.25

Cynette, Jelly Drover generates Jellyfish tokens that have flying, so Lofty Denial comes online the moment the engine starts running and stays active for the rest of the game.

05
Choco, Seeker of Paradise

Choco, Seeker of Paradise

21.1% of decks · synergy 0.19

Choco, Seeker of Paradise plays in a creature-heavy flying shell where Lofty Denial earns its slot as budget interaction that punches well above its mana cost when any flier is in play.

In Commander, Lofty Denial earns its slot in any deck that reliably keeps a flying permanent on board — the condition collapses to near-nothing in those builds, and one-mana hard counters are rare enough that the restriction is a fair trade. In Pauper, it sees real play in blue-white Skies lists for exactly the same reason: the archetype attacks with fliers, so the counter is almost always unconditional. Modern and Pioneer have access to Counterspell itself and cheaper interaction across the board, so Lofty Denial is too conditional to compete there outside of dedicated flying builds. Legacy and Vintage have even stricter baselines, making this a non-starter in those formats regardless of the tribal synergy.

Price Context

Current price

$0.33 bulk tier

At $0.33, Lofty Denial is bulk — easy to pick up as a four-of or a Commander staple without any budget consideration. That price is likely to hold; it's a common with a narrow home, so there's no pressure driving it upward.
