Lightning Crafter enters, pings a target for 3, and then champions a Goblin or Shaman to keep that damage ability live on every subsequent turn — the floor is a 3-damage removal spell stapled to a 3/3, and the ceiling is infinite damage the moment Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker enters the picture. The champion cost is a feature, not a bug: Muxus, Goblin Grandee can flip Lightning Crafter off the top and immediately loop it with other Goblins in play.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Muxus, Goblin Grandee
Muxus, Goblin Grandee hits Lightning Crafter off its triggered ability and can set up the champion chain instantly — with enough Goblins already in play, one Muxus activation can drain the table to zero before anyone untaps.

Wort, Boggart Auntie
Wort, Boggart Auntie recurs whatever Goblin Lightning Crafter championed when it leaves, turning the champion mechanic into a free recursion loop and keeping the damage engine churning through removal.
Format Analysis

Commander is where Lightning Crafter does its best work — 40 life is a lot to drain with a single activation, but the Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker combo closes games instantly, and Goblin tribal shells have the density to exploit the champion loop every turn. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; those formats move too fast for a 4-mana 3/3 that requires setup to close. Modern is the same story — Lightning Crafter is outpaced by the format's threat density and has no competitive home there. Oathbreaker can support it in the same Goblin-combo shells as Commander, just compressed.

$3.30 cheap tier
At $3.30, Lightning Crafter sits in budget-combo territory — cheap enough to slot into any Goblin build without deliberation. Combo staples at this price point tend to hold steady as long as the decks running them stay popular, and Goblin tribal in Commander isn't going anywhere.
