Leonin Surveyor puts a land directly onto the battlefield when it enters — no tapping, no waiting — and costs two mana for a 2/1 body that sticks around. The catch is that the land enters tapped, which blunts the tempo gain, but in any deck that wants repeated enter-the-battlefield triggers, Samut, the Driving Force turns that drawback into background noise.

Samut, the Driving Force
Samut, the Driving Force untaps creatures at the start of each combat, which means Leonin Surveyor can retrigger its land-drop ability every single turn cycle with the right bounce or flicker support — turning a one-time ramp piece into a land-a-turn engine.

In Commander, Leonin Surveyor occupies the low end of the ramp spectrum — it's not competing with two-mana rocks or green's best land fetchers, but it does something most ramp pieces don't: it leaves a body behind. Flicker and ETB-heavy builds run it because the land-drop is a bonus on top of a repeatable trigger target. Outside Commander, it's legal in every major format but finds no meaningful competitive home — constructed formats demand ramp that either accelerates mana immediately or cantrips, and Leonin Surveyor does neither efficiently enough to clear that bar. Pauper is the one exception worth a look, where ETB value at common rarity gets more credit, though it still sits on the fringe there.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Leonin Surveyor is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard and postage, not the card. Bulk commons with narrow ETB applications don't climb in price unless a new commander pushes them into high demand, so don't expect movement.
