Leeching Licid attaches to a creature and drains its controller for 1 life per upkeep — a persistent, repeating tax that compounds over a long game. The mana cost to activate is real, and opponents can pay to remove it, but the effect is genuinely difficult to interact with outside of that window.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Leeching Licid occupies a narrow niche: slow-drain strategies and life-loss synergy decks where every upkeep trigger matters. It's a 40-life format, so the incremental 1-per-turn bleed is less punishing than it sounds unless you're building around it with Rakdos, the Showstopper or a Maralen of the Mornsong lock. Legacy and Vintage are legal but entirely uninterested — Leeching Licid is far too slow and fragile to register in those formats. Oathbreaker is legal and theoretically a home if your planeswalker and signature spell care about life loss, but even there the effect is marginal.

Price Context
Current price
$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Leeching Licid is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard and postage, not the effect. It holds that price floor because demand is thin and likely stays there.
