Leaf Gilder is a mana dork that taps for green on turn two and counts as an Elf the whole game — that second part is what earns its slot. In Selvala, Heart of the Wilds or Dionus, Elvish Archdruid builds, the creature type does as much work as the mana ability.

Dionus, Elvish Archdruid
Dionus, Elvish Archdruid's engine scales directly with the number of Elves on board, and Leaf Gilder pulls double duty as both a mana accelerant and a body that fuels that count from turn two onward.

In Commander, Leaf Gilder is a role-player rather than a staple — it shows up in Elf tribal builds where the creature type matters, not as a generic ramp piece. Pauper is where it earns the most respect outside of EDH; the commons-only format values consistent two-mana acceleration, and Leaf Gilder has been a fixture in green creature shells there for years. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's essentially outclassed — Elvish Mystic and Llanowar Elves produce mana on turn one for the same cost, so Leaf Gilder only appears when you need redundant copies five through eight of the effect. Vintage and Oathbreaker follow the same logic: legal, but rarely chosen.

Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Leaf Gilder is deep bulk — a rounding error in any deck budget. Copies are plentiful enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a new Elf commander drives unexpected demand.
