Commander is where Kylox's Voltstrider actually gets to do its job — a 60-card format rarely has the patience for incremental counter accumulation, but multiplayer games run long enough for the experience counter investment to pay off. In Standard, Pioneer, and Modern, a five-mana creature that scales slowly is too slow without immediate board impact, and dedicated spellslinger shells can find more efficient threats. Legacy and Vintage have the same problem at warp speed: the format kills you before the Voltstrider becomes threatening. Stick to Commander, where the experience counters carry across your opponents' removal.
