Kraul Foragers card art
Kraul Foragers enters with a life gain burst scaled to the number of Insects on the battlefield — in the right deck, that's not incidental padding, it's a meaningful threat. The cost is five mana for a 4/4 with no evasion, which makes it a combo piece or bust; Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker loops and Grist, the Hunger Tide builds are what justify the slot.

Grist, the Hunger Tide

21.3% of decks · synergy 0.21

Grist, the Hunger Tide churns out Insect tokens and fills the graveyard with them simultaneously, which means Kraul Foragers routinely enters counting six, eight, or more bodies — turning its lifegain trigger from negligible to game-swinging in a single activation.

Kraul Foragers is a Commander card. Outside of Insect-tribal or Grist, the Hunger Tide builds, it doesn't have the raw power level for competitive Constructed formats, and five mana for a 4/4 with a conditional trigger isn't clearing the bar in Modern or Pioneer without a dedicated engine. In Pauper it's legal but too slow for a format that rewards efficiency above all else. Commander is its natural home: the 100-card singleton format rewards tribal payoffs, and the multiplayer life total (40) makes a 10-to-20-life swing from Kraul Foragers actually relevant rather than decorative.

Price Context

Current price

$0.08 bulk tier

At $0.08, Kraul Foragers is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a common box rather than buy outright. There's no meaningful price floor to protect here; it holds its value exactly as well as any other bulk rare, which is to say not at all.
