Kemuri-Onna card art
Kemuri-Onna puts a Spirit on the board and forces a discard every time you cast a Spirit — that's a repeatable hand-attack engine stapled to a body, and it only asks you to build around a type your deck probably already wants. The cost is real: five mana for a 3/3 is below rate, and the payoff only compounds if you're casting Spirits consistently enough to make opponents' hands irrelevant before they stabilize. Pair it with Mana Echoes in a Spirit-dense shell and the math gets lopsided fast.

Commander is where Kemuri-Onna actually functions — the multiplayer environment means each discard trigger strips a card from three opponents simultaneously, which turns a modest rate into a meaningful political and strategic lever. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; five mana for a 3/3 with a conditional discard trigger does nothing those formats care about, and no competitive Spirit shell there wants it. Modern has the card pool to support Spirit synergies, but Kemuri-Onna is too slow and too small to compete with what that format demands. Stick to Commander, specifically in Spirit-tribal or token-generating builds where the trigger fires enough times to matter.

Price Context

Current price

$0.25 bulk tier

At $0.25, Kemuri-Onna is pure bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not scarcity. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to move without a high-profile Spirit commander pushing it into the spotlight.
