Kardur's Vicious Return reanimates a creature and staples a Demonic Lore effect onto the same card — you get a body back and replace your hand in one shot. Six mana is the real cost, and that price tag keeps it out of competitive builds, but for casual tables that want value on top of value it does exactly what it promises.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Kardur's Vicious Return is a Commander card through and through — the format's singleton rule and slower clock are the only context where spending six mana to reanimate and draw is acceptable tempo. In Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer the effect is laughably slow; graveyard decks in those formats win on turn two or three and would never touch a six-mana sorcery that doesn't win the game outright. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's casual pace that the card is technically playable there, but the same ceiling applies.

Price Context
Current price
$0.23 bulk tier
At $0.23, Kardur's Vicious Return is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not scarcity. That price is stable because demand is low; this is the kind of card that sits in bulk boxes indefinitely rather than climbing.
