Kalonian Twingrove card art
Kalonian Twingrove enters as two Treefolk tokens whose size scales with your forest count — in a dedicated forest-heavy build that's often two 6/6s or larger for seven mana. Fangorn, Tree Shepherd turns that into a self-sustaining engine, but outside that shell the cost is simply too steep for what competitive Commander tables will let resolve.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Fangorn, Tree Shepherd

Fangorn, Tree Shepherd

87.7% of decks · synergy 0.86

Fangorn, Tree Shepherd's triggered ability generates mana and value off every Treefolk entering the battlefield, and Kalonian Twingrove drops two at once — making this one of the most reliable includes in the 99 at an 88% inclusion rate.

02
Doran, the Siege Tower

Doran, the Siege Tower

17.9% of decks · synergy 0.17

Doran, the Siege Tower cares about toughness as power, and Kalonian Twingrove's tokens enter with equal power and toughness, so every forest in play inflates both stats equally — the bigger the board presence, the bigger the swing.

03
Ashaya, Soul of the Wild

Ashaya, Soul of the Wild

16.5% of decks · synergy 0.15

Ashaya, Soul of the Wild turns every creature into a Forest, which feeds directly into Kalonian Twingrove's forest-count clause and can push the tokens to enormous size mid-combat without any additional setup.

oathbreaker

Kalonian Twingrove is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but competitive play in 60-card formats is essentially off the table — seven mana for two creatures is a liability when those formats end on turn three or four. Commander is the only realistic home, and even there it earns its slot narrowly: forest-tribal and Treefolk builds want it, but generic green goodstuff decks have better seven-drops that don't require a specific land type to scale. In Oathbreaker the math is similar to Commander, so the same forest-count caveat applies.

Price Context

Current price

$0.53 bulk tier

At $0.53, Kalonian Twingrove sits firmly in bulk territory and is an easy pickup for any Treefolk or forest-matters build. Bulk rares with narrow tribal applications rarely climb, so treat this as a functional role-player rather than a spec.
