Journey of Discovery puts two basic lands into your hand — or onto the battlefield tapped if you've got entwine covered — for three mana, which is a fine rate only when raw land count in hand genuinely matters. Outside of Borborygmos Enraged, where lands are the win condition, this is just a worse Cultivate.

Borborygmos Enraged
Borborygmos Enraged pitches lands from hand as three-damage Lightning Bolts, so Journey of Discovery isn't ramp — it's ammunition, loading two basics directly into hand for the next two throws or entwining to put them into play and replace themselves immediately.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Journey of Discovery is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but its actual home is Commander and Pauper — the only formats where a three-mana sorcery that finds basics is worth a slot. In Pauper, land-matters and ramp strategies have limited options at common, so Journey of Discovery earns consideration alongside Kodama's Reach. In Commander, the entwine mode is occasionally relevant in big-mana decks that want lands in play and in hand simultaneously, but Cultivate and Kodama's Reach do the same job without needing six mana to do both. Legacy, Modern, and Vintage have no use for it.

Price Context
Current price
$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Journey of Discovery is deep bulk — you're paying for the cardboard, not the card. That price is stable simply because demand is narrow and supply is abundant, so don't expect movement in either direction.
