Kodama's Reach is a three-mana sorcery that puts a basic land into play and another into hand — it's one of the most-played cards in Commander for exactly that reason: consistent ramp and a land drop banked for next turn. The one real trade-off is sorcery speed at three mana, which means decks that can't afford to tap out on turn three — think Gonti, Canny Acquisitor builds that need open mana for triggers — sometimes prefer cheaper or instant-speed alternatives.
Where It Shines
Where the extra mana on turn one matters most
Big-mana shells like Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm
Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm wants to reach six and seven mana fast and reliably, and Kodama's Reach does exactly that — two lands for one spell means you're ahead on mana while also thinning the deck for late-game consistency.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Kodama's Reach is a Commander staple first and foremost — 100-card singleton formats reward the redundancy of running it alongside Cultivate, and the land-to-hand half is especially valuable when you need to hit five or six lands over consecutive turns. In Pauper it's legal and occasionally sees play in slower green decks that want cheap, reliable land sequencing. Legacy, Vintage, and Modern formats all have access to it, but three mana at sorcery speed is simply too slow when those formats are often decided by turn two or three. Pioneer and Standard don't have it, but that's irrelevant — Kodama's Reach is built for the long game, and Commander is exactly where the long game lives.

Price Context
Current price
$2.28 cheap tier
At $2.28, Kodama's Reach sits in the cheap tier — fully justified given how many decks want a copy, and there's no meaningful budget alternative that does the same thing at the same mana cost. Widespread printings across precons and supplemental sets keep the price grounded, so don't expect sticker shock picking one up.
