Izzet Guildmage is a two-mana combo engine that can copy any instant or sorcery with converted mana cost two or less — including Dramatic Reversal, which turns it into a game-ending infinite-mana loop with the right rocks in play. The cost is that outside that specific line, the copying ability is narrow and the body is irrelevant.

Izzet Guildmage is a Commander card first and almost exclusively — the Dramatic Reversal combo is what puts it on decklists, and that loop only matters in a multiplayer game where infinite mana translates to a win. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; the power floor is too low to compete with what those formats are doing on turns one and two. Modern is the same story: a 2/2 for two mana that copies small spells can't match the efficiency threshold the format demands. Commander is the only place Izzet Guildmage earns a slot, and even there it's a role-player, not a staple.
