Ivory Mask makes you untargetable by opponents' spells and abilities for three mana — a permanent Shroud effect that shuts down targeted removal, theft, and hand-disruption aimed at you. It's a niche pillow-fort piece that earns its slot in decks that specifically want to protect their life total or combo off without interference, but does nothing proactive.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Ivory Mask sees virtually all of its play, protecting you from the table's worth of targeted interaction while your engine assembles — decks built around life gain, combo, or Ghostly Prison-style stax lean on it most. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but sees no meaningful play; Leyline of Sanctity does the same job for two mana at instant speed with a free cast option, and competitive formats punish that kind of mana investment. Modern is the same story — Ivory Mask is simply outclassed by cheaper redundancy. Oathbreaker is legal but the faster pace of that format makes a three-mana do-nothing enchantment a risky inclusion.
