Impending Doom puts a clock on a creature and deals damage equal to its power when time runs out — a removal spell with a built-in payoff stapled to an enchantment. The cost is real: the three-turn delay gives opponents time to respond, and any removal on the enchanted creature wastes the card entirely.

In Commander, Impending Doom is too slow to be reliable removal — three turns is an eternity at a four-player table, and the creature you target will often trade, be sacrificed, or have the enchantment answered before the doom counter fires. Competitive formats like Legacy and Modern have far more efficient spot removal at the same or lower mana cost, so Impending Doom sees essentially no play there. Pioneer is the same story. The only context where it gets interesting is a dedicated curse or enchantment-matters Commander build, where the enchantment type itself has value and the damage trigger is a bonus rather than the primary plan.

Price Context
Current price
$0.04 bulk tier
At $0.04, Impending Doom is deep bulk — it costs more to sleeve than to buy. That price reflects demand accurately: there is no competitive home and casual appeal is narrow, so don't expect it to move.
