Imminent Doom
Enchantment
This enchantment enters with a doom counter on it.
Whenever you cast a spell with mana value equal to the number of doom counters on this enchantment, this enchantment deals that much damage to any target. Then put a doom counter on this enchantment.

Imminent Doom rewards you for playing spells of escalating mana value — each time you hit a new CMC threshold, it fires a free damage trigger directly at any target. The catch is that the counter has to climb sequentially, so spell sequencing matters and stalling on a mana value kills the chain.

Imminent Doom is a Commander card through and through — the format's longer games give you time to climb the CMC ladder naturally, and spell-slinger commanders that already want to cast one spell of each cost turn the enchantment into a repeatable burn engine. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern or Legacy, the sequential-CMC constraint is too slow and too fragile against interaction to justify three mana for a conditional damage source. Pioneer is the same story — the card is legal but outclassed by faster, more reliable payoffs. Commander is where Imminent Doom actually does what it promises.
