Hunger of the Nim is a one-mana instant that scales with your artifact count, turning a board of Myr tokens or metalcraft enablers into a lethal pump on a single creature. It's a narrow win-condition finisher — strong in dedicated artifact swarm shells, irrelevant everywhere else.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Hunger of the Nim sees play almost exclusively in Pauper, where artifact-token strategies like Affinity can realistically put ten-plus artifacts into play and convert the spell into a one-mana, one-shot kill. In Commander, it's a fringe card — you need a dedicated artifact-count engine like Breya, Etherium Shaper or Memnarch to make the pump reliably lethal, and even then sorcery-speed interaction or a board wipe blanks it completely. Legacy and Vintage have it legal but ignore it; those formats end games faster than Hunger of the Nim can set up. Pauper is where this card actually lives.

Price Context
Current price
$0.12 bulk tier
At $0.12, Hunger of the Nim is deep bulk — you're paying pennies for a narrow role-player. Bulk commons rarely move in price unless a new artifact-token commander breaks the format wide open, so buy as many as you need without a second thought.
