Hum of the Radix taxes every artifact spell your opponents cast by one additional mana per artifact they already control — a scaling penalty that goes from annoying on turn three to backbreaking by mid-game. Two mana for a one-sided stax piece this punishing is an easy include in any green deck that leans on permanents over artifacts.

In Commander, Hum of the Radix is a green stax staple that scales with table size — every opponent running Sol Ring, mana rocks, or artifact combo pieces gets taxed harder the longer the game goes. Legacy and Vintage are the only other formats where it's legal, but both are too fast and too artifact-dense for a two-mana enchantment that doesn't impact the board immediately; it doesn't see play there. Modern is legal on paper, but the same problem applies — affinity-style strategies go under it before it matters. Hum of the Radix's power is almost entirely a Commander phenomenon, where games go long enough for the scaling tax to lock opponents out of redeploying their artifact suites after a board wipe.

Price Context
Current price
$0.51 bulk tier
At $0.51, Hum of the Radix is deep bulk — a rare that never broke out of obscurity despite being genuinely powerful in the right shell. The price reflects low demand outside green stax circles, not low quality, and it's unlikely to move unless a high-profile Commander deck puts it in the spotlight.
