Hollow One is a 4/4 for zero mana in the right shell — every card you cycle or discard in a turn knocks three off its cost, so decks built around looting and cycling routinely cast it for free on turn one or two. Abandoned Sarcophagus and The Capitoline Triad both reward packing your graveyard, and Hollow One is the payoff that makes those engines feel broken.

The Capitoline Triad
The Capitoline Triad's discard-and-recur gameplan fills the graveyard fast enough that Hollow One regularly hits the table for free in the first few turns, and a 4/4 body that costs nothing slots cleanly into the same aggressive curve the deck wants to establish.

In Commander, Hollow One is a reliable early threat in any deck that cycles or loots heavily — one discard trigger plus a cycle can drop a 4/4 for a single mana, which overperforms at any table. Modern saw Hollow One define its own archetype: dedicated discard-and-Flamewheeler shells could deploy multiple copies for free on turn one, making it a serious competitive threat before the format's pace shifted. Legacy and Vintage offer even more broken enablers, but those formats have enough interaction that a vanilla 4/4 rarely wins on its own merit. Pioneer is its weakest competitive home — the enablers are thinner and the payoff isn't dramatic enough to anchor a dedicated shell there.

Price data isn't available right now — check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for a current figure. Hollow One has spiked before when new discard synergies enter the format, so grabbing copies when a relevant commander or enabler gets printed tends to be the wrong time.
