Hidetsugu's Second Rite

Hidetsugu's Second Rite is a Commander card through and through — the format's higher starting life totals and multi-player dynamics make engineering an exact 10 a real puzzle worth solving, and the payoff (killing a player for two mana at instant speed) is enormous. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, opponents start at 20 life and aggressive decks close games before life totals stabilize at 10, so Second Rite has no reliable home in those formats. Standard legality is technically accurate but practically irrelevant — the card sees zero competitive play there. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander format where it thrives, specifically as Sorin Markov's signature spell, turning the planeswalker into a two-activation kill machine.
