Hidden Herd puts a 3/3 token into play the moment an opponent cracks a fetchland or otherwise puts a basic into play from outside the game — and it does that for a single green mana at instant speed. In a format where fetchlands are everywhere, this is a reliable token generator that costs almost nothing to hold up.

Commander is where Hidden Herd does its best work — a four-player table with even one fetchland-heavy deck means you'll flip a 3/3 token for free multiple times per game. In Legacy, fetchlands are ubiquitous enough that the card has real teeth, but sorcery-speed threats and faster game plans make a one-mana enchantment that sits and waits a tough sell outside dedicated enchantress shells. Vintage is legal but irrelevant — the format ends too fast for Hidden Herd to accumulate value. Oathbreaker is legal and the logic mirrors Commander, though the smaller table reduces the number of fetch triggers you can expect. Overall, this is a Commander card almost exclusively.
