Haunting Echoes
Sorcery
Exile all cards from target player's graveyard other than basic land cards. For each card exiled this way, search that player's library for all cards with the same name as that card and exile them. Then that player shuffles.

Haunting Echoes exiles every copy of every non-basic land card currently in an opponent's graveyard from the game — then finds all cards in their library with the same name and exiles those too, hollowing out their deck in one shot. Five mana for that effect is a bargain when it lands at the right moment, and the right moment is right after a board wipe or a mill spell.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Haunting Echoes is a surgical strike against a single player — it won't table the whole pod, but it can permanently cripple a graveyard-synergy deck or strip a combo player of their key pieces mid-game after any mass-mill setup. Legacy and Vintage have faster, more redundant threats, so Haunting Echoes rarely competes there outside of dedicated mill strategies where you can reliably stock graveyards before casting it. Modern is the same story — it's legal but outclassed by more efficient disruption, and five mana is a steep ask in that format. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's dynamic: great as a finisher in a mill-focused deck, mediocre in most other builds.

Price Context
Current price
$3.80 cheap tier
At $3.80, Haunting Echoes sits in a comfortable budget tier — low enough to include without second-guessing, high enough that it signals real utility rather than bulk status. It holds that price point steadily because demand is niche but real, and it's unlikely to spike or crater dramatically.
