Haunted One
Legendary Enchantment — Background
Commander creatures you own have "Whenever this creature becomes tapped, it and other creatures you control that share a creature type with it each get +2/+0 and gain undying until end of turn." (When a creature with undying dies, if it had no +1/+1 counters on it, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control with a +1/+1 counter on it.)

Haunted One gives all your creatures menace until end of turn — a combat finisher stapled onto a background that costs two mana to cast and zero slots outside the command zone if your commander supports it. The payoff is immediate and massive in token-wide strategies; Fain, the Broker and Ellie, Brick Master // Joel, Resolute Survivor both run it because a board-wide evasion pump on attack is often the difference between winning that turn and not.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Ellie, Brick Master // Joel, Resolute Survivor
Ellie, Brick Master // Joel, Resolute Survivor is the natural home for Haunted One — Ellie generates Survivor tokens constantly, and a board of hasty Survivors swinging with menace through a background that costs two mana to deploy is a closing engine that comes online early.

Burakos, Party Leader // Folk Hero
Burakos, Party Leader // Folk Hero turns treasure production into card advantage, and Haunted One gives that wide token board the evasion it needs to punch through — every menace attacker that connects also triggers Folk Hero's draw.

Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm
Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm floods the board with Rat tokens, and Haunted One converts that horizontal mass into an unblockable wall of menace; the Rats that already have modified stats from Ashcoat become doubly difficult to answer in combat.

Francisco, Fowl Marauder // Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator
Francisco, Fowl Marauder // Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator prizes multiple attackers connecting simultaneously for treasure generation, and Haunted One's board-wide menace makes it far easier to get those triggers through a defended board.

Marrow-Gnawer
Marrow-Gnawer can produce an arbitrarily large Rat swarm in a single turn, and Haunted One turns that mass into a menace army that forces opponents to sacrifice two blockers per attacker — with enough Rats, that's simply unsolvable.

Haunted One is a Commander card through and through — the Background mechanic only functions in the command zone alongside a 'choose a Background' commander, so its real home is EDH. In Legacy and Vintage, it's technically legal but Background has no rules support outside Commander, making it a blank enchantment that does nothing in those formats. Commander is the only context where Haunted One earns its slot, and in the right token-wide deck it earns it comfortably.
