Hapatra's Mark card art
Hapatra's Mark removes all -1/-1 counters from a target creature you control and replaces them with hexproof until end of turn — a protection spell that doubles as a counter reset on the same mana. In Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons decks, that reset generates a snake for every counter removed, turning a defensive instant into a board-wide payoff.

Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons triggers a 1/1 deathtouch snake for each -1/-1 counter placed on a creature — and Hapatra's Mark strips all of them off a single target at once, firing each removal as a separate trigger and potentially flooding the board while keeping a key creature alive.

In Commander, Hapatra's Mark is a niche one-of that earns its slot almost exclusively in -1/-1 counter decks, where the counter-removal clause generates real value instead of just acting as a worse Dive Down. Outside of that shell, it's outclassed by Blossoming Defense and Tyvar's Stand as green hexproof spells at the same or similar cost. In competitive formats like Modern and Legacy it sees essentially no play — the counter interaction is irrelevant in most contexts and the baseline hexproof rate is insufficient to displace established options. Pioneer and Oathbreaker follow the same logic: playable only if you're already built around -1/-1 counters, and close to unplayable otherwise.

$0.29 bulk tier

At $0.29, Hapatra's Mark sits firmly in bulk territory and is unlikely to climb without a reprint that spikes interest in -1/-1 counter strategies. It's an easy pickup if you're building the deck, but don't expect the price to move.
