Halvar, God of Battle // Sword of the Realms card art
Halvar, God of Battle // Sword of the Realms puts a free Equipment or Aura on every creature that deals combat damage and bounces your own gear as a backup plan — all on a 4/4 with double strike for four mana. The backside as an Equipment is the bonus: it grants a second Halvar's ability and returns equipped creatures to hand on death, making it nearly impossible to permanently remove your attacker. In Equipment shells running Puresteel Paladin and Cloud, Midgar Mercenary, this card is never a dead draw.

In Commander, Halvar, God of Battle // Sword of the Realms earns its slot in any white Equipment or Voltron build — the front face accelerates the whole engine by eliminating equip costs on every hit, and the modal-DFC flexibility means you're never stuck with a legendary creature you can't cast as your second copy. In Modern and Pioneer, it sees fringe play in white Aggro and Equipment shells where the four-mana front face is occasionally too slow but the Sword backside provides a relevant death-prevention effect. Legacy has enough redundancy and speed that Halvar rarely competes for a slot, but it's not unplayable in fringe white Stompy builds. Across formats, the card's ceiling is squarely in Commander, where multi-combat and attack-trigger synergies make the free-equip clause devastating across a long game.
