Hag Hedge-Mage card art
Hag Hedge-Mage delivers up to three separate effects the turn it enters — discard, reanimate, or fog — each gated on controlling two basics of a given type, which multicolor good-stuff decks satisfy trivially. In Quintorius Kand shells and similar Mardu or five-color lists, all three modes are live simultaneously, making this a three-for-one on a single card.

Hag Hedge-Mage is a Commander card through and through — the three-mode design rewards the bloated mana bases that five-color and Triome-heavy decks already run, and the value compounds when you control all five basic types. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; the format is too fast for a five-mana creature with conditional abilities to matter. Modern is similarly unkind — the card is too slow and too dependent on a basic-land density that competitive Modern lists can't afford. Commander is the only home where Hag Hedge-Mage earns its slot.

Price Context

Current price

$0.17 bulk tier

At $0.17, Hag Hedge-Mage sits firmly in bulk territory and isn't going anywhere — it's a niche role-player with narrow Commander appeal and no competitive demand to drive a price floor. Pick up copies freely; there's no meaningful financial risk either direction.
