Grifter's Blade gives a creature +1/+0, first strike, and haste for two mana to equip — reasonable upside on a stax or theft piece, but the equip cost repeating every time you move it is punishing in go-wide or reequip strategies. It's a fine role-player in the right shell and bulk filler everywhere else.

In Commander, Grifter's Blade earns its slot in decks that steal opposing creatures and need to attack immediately — haste on a stolen blocker is often the whole game. In Legacy and Vintage, equipment is competing with Umezawa's Jitte and Batterskull, so Grifter's Blade never sees serious play there. Modern has enough cheap efficient equipment that the Blade doesn't crack competitive lists. It's legal in Oathbreaker, where the compressed game speed makes haste more valuable, but the format hasn't embraced it as a staple.
