Batterskull card art
Batterskull lands as a 4/4 lifelink vigilance threat that laughs at removal — bounce it back to your hand, replay it, repeat. Five mana is the real cost, and Nahiri, Forged in Fury cuts that entirely by putting it directly onto a creature for free.

01
Nahiri, Forged in Fury

Nahiri, Forged in Fury

47.2% of decks · synergy 0.45

Nahiri, Forged in Fury tutors Batterskull directly onto an attacking creature at no mana cost, turning what is normally a five-mana setup into a zero-mana ambush that gains life and threatens to recur every time removal touches it.

02
Gilgamesh, Master-at-Arms

Gilgamesh, Master-at-Arms

26.8% of decks · synergy 0.26

Gilgamesh, Master-at-Arms cares about equipping and re-equipping, and Batterskull's built-in bounce-and-replay loop means Gilgamesh triggers stack up without needing additional equipment in hand.

04
Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant

Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant

20.6% of decks · synergy 0.20

Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant's affinity-style cost reduction makes Batterskull effectively free, and a five-mana artifact that rebounces itself is exactly the kind of resilient threat that wants to come down ahead of curve.

05
Sephiroth, Fallen Hero

Sephiroth, Fallen Hero

14.5% of decks · synergy 0.12

Sephiroth, Fallen Hero benefits from the lifelink on Batterskull to fuel his ability triggers, and the Germ token provides a ready-made body so the equipment is never sitting unequipped and dead.

oathbreaker

In Commander, Batterskull occupies a solid utility role — it's not a build-around, but any deck that wants a self-protecting Equipment or a stabilizing life buffer will run it, especially in Nahiri, Forged in Fury lists where the equip cost vanishes. In Legacy, Batterskull remains a proven finisher in fair blue-white shells, where the bounce clause makes it nearly impossible to answer cleanly with single-target removal. Modern has largely moved past it as threats have become faster and more efficient, but it still sees fringe play in slower midrange and prison strategies that can survive to turn five. Vintage legal but rarely played — the format's pace makes five mana a prohibitive ask even with the upside. Batterskull is out of reach for Pauper, Pioneer, and Standard entirely.

Price Context

Current price

$4.20 cheap tier

At $4.20, Batterskull sits in the cheap tier and represents strong value for what it does on board — it's a mythic-quality effect at a bulk rare price point. Demand from Commander keeps a floor under it, and any spike in Nahiri, Forged in Fury popularity will pull this along with it.
