Grasping Current card art
Grasping Current bounces all tapped creatures an opponent controls — a one-sided tempo swing that can gut an attacking board or strand an opponent's mana dorks in hand. At three mana at instant speed, the cost-to-impact ratio is real, and it scales hard with opponents who tap out to cast or attack.

Commander is where Grasping Current earns its slot, specifically in blue decks that punish tapping — Merfolk tempo builds, Nymris or Sygg draw-go piles, and anything helmed by Koma, Cosmos Serpent, which taps permanents as a removal mode and sets up a clean sweep. In competitive non-rotating formats like Legacy and Vintage, the effect is too narrow and too slow against combo and tempo decks that don't rely on tapped creatures as a meaningful state. Modern and Pioneer offer aggro matchups where the bounce could theoretically matter, but Grasping Current lacks the redundancy and density those formats demand. Oathbreaker, like Commander, rewards the card in shells that generate or leverage tapped-creature states. It's a Commander card through and through.

Price Context

Current price

$0.12 bulk tier

At $0.12, Grasping Current is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a box rather than order. That price is stable; there's no crossover demand from eternal formats to push it upward.
