Koma, Cosmos Serpent hits the table as a self-replacing, tap-locking engine — seven mana gets you a 6/6 that generates a free Serpent token every upkeep and lets you sacrifice any Coil token to either lock down a permanent or make itself indestructible. The cost is real: seven mana in two colors means you need a ramp-heavy shell to deploy it consistently, which is exactly why Kenessos, Priest of Thassa cheats it into play from the top of the library and Esix, Fractal Bloom copies the tokens it generates.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Kenessos, Priest of Thassa
Kenessos, Priest of Thassa skips the seven-mana ask entirely — Koma, Cosmos Serpent is the premier Serpent target for Kenessos's triggered ability, landing into play from the top of the library whenever a Serpent connects. At 85% inclusion across Kenessos decks, it's essentially a staple.

Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep
Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep has a near-identical cheat-into-play trigger for Krakens, Leviathans, Octopuses, and Serpents, making Koma, Cosmos Serpent one of the headlining payoffs. The self-replacing token generation means Koma also feeds future Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep triggers.

Koma, World-Eater
Koma, World-Eater pairs with Koma, Cosmos Serpent as the obvious lore-and-function partner — the Coil tokens the Cosmos Serpent generates slot directly into World-Eater's sacrifice and devouring mechanics. Running both lets the deck operate as a Koma tribal engine.
Peter Parker
Peter Parker wants large, threatening creatures that generate value the moment they enter, and Koma, Cosmos Serpent delivers exactly that — a 6/6 that immediately begins producing tokens fits comfortably alongside other big threats Peter Parker cheats into play or copies.

Adrix and Nev, Twincasters
Adrix and Nev, Twincasters double every Serpent Coil token Koma, Cosmos Serpent creates, turning one free token per upkeep into two and rapidly stacking the tap-or-indestructible activations. That token doubling compresses the timeline from slow attrition to full board lock.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the native habitat for Koma, Cosmos Serpent — the legendary typing is irrelevant here, the seven-mana cost is manageable in a format with Sol Ring and mana dorks, and the tap-lock ability is devastating in multiplayer where opponents run out of responses. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but purely unplayable; seven mana is a non-starter in formats where games end on turn two or three. Modern and Pioneer are the more interesting cases: Koma, Cosmos Serpent has occasionally shown up in Simic ramp shells, and the indestructible protection makes it resilient to the removal those formats lean on, but the mana cost still strains most competitive mana bases. Oathbreaker is a fine home for it as a spell, especially under a planeswalker that ramps.
