Gossamer Chains taps a creature and keeps it tapped until you choose to untap it — repeatable soft-lock for one white mana, with the flexibility to release on your terms. It's a niche card, but in the right stax or pillow-fort shell it does real work.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Gossamer Chains sees virtually no play in Legacy or Vintage, where the tempo cost of a one-mana enchantment that doesn't immediately affect the board is too steep against the format's speed. In Commander, it finds its best home in white stax and flicker builds, where holding a threat tapped indefinitely can buy multiple turns or enable political leverage. Pauper is its most interesting competitive context — white tempo strategies can abuse the sustained tap effect in ways the format's creature-light removal suites struggle to answer. In Oathbreaker the singleton rule still limits it, but white control oathbreakers that care about board manipulation have reason to consider it.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Gossamer Chains is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a quarter bin without a second thought. It's not a price mover; the narrow effect keeps demand low, so don't expect the floor to shift.
