Gold Rush drops a Treasure token onto the battlefield for each opponent the moment it resolves, turning a one-mana spell into immediate mana acceleration that scales with table size. In Commander, that's typically three free Treasures for R — and Jolene, the Plunder Queen converts every one of them into a +1/+1 counter, making this an auto-include in her lists.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Jolene, the Plunder Queen
Jolene, the Plunder Queen runs Gold Rush in over half her lists because three Treasures entering at once means three immediate +1/+1 counters on Jolene and a ready mana burst to sink into her activated abilities — it's one mana doing the work of three.

Vazi, Keen Negotiator
Vazi, Keen Negotiator distributes Treasure tokens to opponents as part of her engine, so Gold Rush fits naturally: it seeds your own board with Treasures first, giving you the acceleration to pull ahead before Vazi's political economy kicks in.

Ognis, the Dragon's Lash
Ognis, the Dragon's Lash rewards haste creatures with Treasures on attack, and Gold Rush provides the early mana to land those haste creatures ahead of curve — one red mana on turn one translates directly into faster, more explosive combat turns.

Roxanne, Starfall Savant
Roxanne, Starfall Savant generates value off Treasure and artifact synergies, and Gold Rush is one of the cheapest ways to put multiple Treasures into play simultaneously, smoothing out the ramp Roxanne needs to cast her expensive payoffs.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Gold Rush is legal across every major Constructed format, but it only earns a slot in Commander, where the three-opponent default means you reliably net three Treasures for one red mana — an exchange no competitive 60-card format can match, since those games are one-on-one. In Standard, Modern, and Pioneer, a sorcery-speed ramp spell that produces a single Treasure simply doesn't clear the bar; there are faster and more flexible options at the same cost. Legacy and Vintage aren't interested either — those formats have broken mana acceleration that makes Gold Rush irrelevant. Commander is the correct and essentially only home for Gold Rush, specifically in Treasure-matters and Gruul-adjacent shells where the token count compounds immediately.

Price Context
Current price
$0.09 bulk tier
At $0.09, Gold Rush is pure bulk — you'll find it in any dollar-bin or as a throw-in trade. Given how narrowly it performs outside Commander and how many printings Treasure-token spells tend to accumulate, there's no pressure on the price floor.
