Gitaxian Anatomist card art
Gitaxian Anatomist enters, proliferates, and replaces itself — all for three mana — making it one of the most efficient proliferate bodies in Commander. The catch is a 1/1 stat line that dies to a stiff breeze, but the immediate value on entry means you rarely need it to stick around; Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus doubling that proliferate trigger turns the whole package into a two-for-one the moment it resolves, and Myojin of Cryptic Dreams gives you a reason to care about the creature surviving past that.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus

Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus

20.4% of decks · synergy 0.20

Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus doubles every proliferate trigger, so Gitaxian Anatomist's enter-the-battlefield proliferate hits twice and the cantrip still replaces the card — that's two counters spread across your permanents for three mana and zero card disadvantage.

02

Jin-Gitaxias

10.1% of decks · synergy 0.10

Jin-Gitaxias rewards stacking oil counters and advancing the Phyrexian game plan, and Gitaxian Anatomist slots cleanly into that engine as a low-cost proliferate body that never leaves you down a card.

In Commander, Gitaxian Anatomist is a staple piece in any deck that cares about proliferate — it cantrips, it triggers on entry, and it scales hard in the presence of Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus. Outside Commander, the card is legal in Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Pauper, but proliferate as a sustained engine doesn't translate well to those formats' faster, more linear game plans. Pauper is the one 60-card format worth watching — dedicated proliferate builds exist there, and Gitaxian Anatomist's rate is competitive at common. Everywhere else, it's a Commander card wearing a multi-format badge.

Price Context

Current price

$0.21 bulk tier

At $0.21, Gitaxian Anatomist is deep bulk — pick it up in any proliferate build without hesitation. Bulk rares in narrow archetypes rarely climb unless the archetype spikes in popularity, so treat it as a cheap staple rather than a spec.
