Gilder Bairn card art
Gilder Bairn doubles the counters on any permanent you control — planeswalkers, creatures, enchantments — for the cost of tapping and paying an Simic-flavored untap activation. The ceiling is absurd; the ceiling is gated entirely by how cheaply you can untap it, which is why Experiment Kraj and Mimeoplasm, Revered One both reach for it as a core engine piece rather than a support card.

Mimeoplasm, Revered One enters loaded with +1/+1 counters and generates more through its ward-and-proliferate gameplan, making Gilder Bairn a way to turn a board of counters-laden creatures into an immediate clock — doubling Mimeoplasm itself often ends the game in two swings.

Gilder Bairn is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Commander is the only format where it regularly sees a table. In Legacy and Vintage the competition for three-mana creatures is brutal and the untap cost is a real liability without dedicated support. Modern has enough counter synergies that a Gilder Bairn shell is theoretically functional, but the card hasn't found a competitive home there — the untap requirement is too slow without an engine built around it. Commander is where the card belongs: singleton rules mean you only need one copy, and the 100-card format gives you the space to build the untap infrastructure that makes it oppressive.

Pricing data isn't available in this snapshot, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the current number. Gilder Bairn is a casual staple rather than a competitive staple, so it tends to sit in the affordable range — but spikes are possible any time a new counter-heavy commander generates buzz.
