Gift of Orzhova turns any creature into a lifelink, flying threat for three mana — the effect is real, the cost is not. Three-mana auras that don't replace themselves are a liability in most formats, and Gift of Orzhova rarely clears that bar outside of dedicated voltron or lifegain strategies.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Gift of Orzhova is a role-player, not a staple — it earns its slot in lifegain-matters decks and voltron builds that want cheap evasion, but it's too slow and card-neutral for general use. Pauper is where Gift of Orzhova actually competes; three-mana auras are more acceptable at common, and pairing it with a hexproof creature in a bogles-style shell makes the investment worthwhile. In Pioneer and Modern the card simply doesn't show up — the formats move too fast for a sorcery-speed aura that draws no cards, and better equipment or aura options exist at every price point. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters for the same reason, amplified.

Price Context
Current price
$0.23 bulk tier
At $0.23, Gift of Orzhova is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not scarcity. It won't appreciate; the effect is narrow enough that demand stays flat, so grab a copy if the deck calls for it and don't think twice about the price.
