Ghired's Belligerence card art
Ghired's Belligerence deals damage to each opponent equal to your greatest power among creatures, then populates — that's a burn spell and a token doubler stapled together for five mana. In any deck running Ghired, Conclave Exile, this is an easy include: it rewards you for having the fattest token on board and immediately makes another one.

Ghired, Conclave Exile

Ghired, Conclave Exile

47.3% of decks · synergy 0.46

Ghired, Conclave Exile makes a 4/4 rhino on entry and populates on attack, so Ghired's Belligerence slots in as a second populate effect that also punishes opponents for letting your board grow — two halves of the same engine.

02
Magnus the Red

Magnus the Red

16.7% of decks · synergy 0.16

Magnus the Red buffs tokens with each sorcery cast, so Ghired's Belligerence pulls double duty: it triggers Magnus's power-scaling while copying whatever massive token you've already built.

03

Extus, Oriq Overlord

11.8% of decks · synergy 0.12

Extus, Oriq Overlord leans on spells that generate or copy creatures, and Ghired's Belligerence fits as a payoff that converts board presence into direct damage while extending the token count.

Ghired's Belligerence is a Commander card through and through — the populate mechanic only gets interesting when you're already running high-power tokens, which is a Commander-specific incentive structure. It's legal in Legacy and Vintage but sees no meaningful play there; five mana for conditional damage and a token copy is nowhere near the power bar those formats demand. In Oathbreaker it's playable if your signature spell or planeswalker strategy supports tokens, but the card truly earns its slot in Commander where games go long enough to have a 4/4 or bigger token sitting in play. Outside of 60-card formats, this card simply doesn't exist.

Price Context

Current price

$2.43 cheap tier

At $2.43, Ghired's Belligerence sits in the cheap tier — low enough to slot in without a second thought if the strategy fits. It's a narrow card with a dedicated home, so don't expect the price to move much either direction.
