Genku, Future Shaper turns every proliferate trigger into a mana engine — drop a counter on Crystalline Crawler and you're converting each proliferate spell into free mana, which chains into the next one. The ask is four mana for a 2/4, which is fair for what it enables, but Genku, Future Shaper needs a built-in proliferate engine around it to do anything meaningful; in isolation, it's just a body.

Commander is the only home that makes sense for Genku, Future Shaper — the card is built around long-game counter synergies and proliferate payoffs that simply don't exist at meaningful density in 60-card formats. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but competes with engines that win faster and don't require a support structure of counters already in play. Oathbreaker could support it in the right signature spell shell, but the 100-card Commander format gives it the most room to assemble the pieces it needs.
