Geistlight Snare is a hard counterspell that costs as little as one blue mana in the right deck — that's the whole pitch. In Spirit-heavy builds, particularly Millicent, Restless Revenant, the discount is live almost every game, making this a strict upgrade over most conditional counters in the same slot.

Millicent, Restless Revenant
Millicent, Restless Revenant generates a Spirit token whenever another Spirit enters the battlefield on your side, so the board fills up fast — and a stocked Spirit board means Geistlight Snare routinely counters anything for a single blue mana.

In Commander, Geistlight Snare is a role-player in exactly one archetype: Spirit tribal, where the discount is consistently online and the card earns its slot. Outside of that context it's too narrow — you're not running this in a generic blue deck when Counterspell and Arcane Denial exist. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern and Legacy, the conditional clause is a liability; those formats don't support Spirit tribal at the level needed to make Geistlight Snare reliable, and unconditional counters are cheap enough that the discount rarely justifies the deckbuilding cost. Pioneer is the same story. The card is legal everywhere that matters, but its real home is Commander Spirit builds and nowhere else.

$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Geistlight Snare is pure bulk — pick it up for pocket change and don't think twice about the cost. Bulk counterspells with narrow conditions don't appreciate, so treat this as a cheap role-player to slot in and forget, not something to spec on.
