Furnace Dragon wipes every artifact off the board when it enters — opponent's Mana Vault, their Sol Ring, their Thran Dynamo, all gone — and it does this attached to a 5/5 flying body. The catch is the Affinity for artifacts cost: in a non-artifact deck you're paying nine mana for a conditional Vandalblast stapled to a dragon, and that's not a deal worth taking.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Furnace Dragon is a niche hate piece — it earns a slot only at tables where artifact strategies dominate and you can reliably reduce its cost through your own artifact count. Legacy, Modern, and Vintage are legal but irrelevant: nine mana is unplayable in competitive constructed regardless of affinity discounts, and those formats have faster, cheaper artifact removal. The card lives and dies in Commander, where the political calculus of wiping everyone's artifacts simultaneously can occasionally justify the rate.

Price Context
Current price
$0.50 bulk tier
At $0.50, Furnace Dragon is deep bulk — you're paying for the cardboard, not the effect. Don't expect the price to move; the narrow use case keeps demand low and copies plentiful.
